Music Management: In General Music
Classroom Management Definition
“Classroom management consists of the practices and procedures that a teacher uses to maintain an environment in which instruction and learning can occur.” (Wong & Wong, 2009, pg. 11)
Management Plan
Some of the key components of an effective classroom management are structure, clear expectations, rules and routines, flexibility, variety, engagement through participation and active lessons, planned out behavior management process, and opportunity for student voice. Between these three classroom management plans that we found, we noticed that all of them have outlined specific rules and expectations first and foremost. Rewards and consequences also seem important to include, but one of the plans we found didn’t have rewards listed and another one didn’t have consequences listed. One of them has a great layout of encouragement procedures and classroom motivation goals, which we thought added something nice and extra to the plan. We think it’s important to have a balance of all of these characteristics because they work together to create a full classroom management plan, and without one of them, there would be room for problems to slip through the cracks and into the classroom.
